European shame

What happened today in the european parliament, where left and right reached an agreement and "elected" socialist Josep Borell president for two years and will "elect" a german liberal for two and a half years after him, is a real shame. In front of Josep Borell was a polish candidate, Bronislaw Geremek. Geremek is certainly one of the smartest men in the whole continent. He flies faaaar above Borell, and I deeply regret he won't be president of the european parliament...

No offense, but maybe if the Europeans actually elected their own president rather than having their politicians do it for them, things would work out better...
Daniel,
thanks for warm words about Bronislaw Geremek - I must say, that it is great to hear for me (I'm from Poland) that not only Poles thinks that he would be the best person as the president of the European Parliament. Thanks.
Jason: it depends. It used to be that US Senators were appointed by the states government, rather than elected by the people.
An appointed senator is a public servant, and cannot take money from special interests. Now that senators are elected they have much more money flowing through their hands...
I disagree, Eric. First of all, regardless of whether the senators were elected or appointed, they were still "public servants." Since the senators were appointed by elected officials (state legislatures) anyway, the connection to special interests still existed. However, elected senators have more of a responsibility to their constituents, since they must get re-elected, resulting in more accountability for senatorial actions than was previously the case.
[Note de Daniel] this comment was an antisemitic comment about Geremek and this kind of SHIT is definitely not accepted here. The author "John" posted from Australia at IP address 210.49.160.236, c210-49-160-236.brasd1.vic.optusnet.com.au. I am going to contact this ISP's abuse authority and I am going to do it right now. Update: done

Hi, is it however possible to read the so called "antisemitic" comment about Geremek , to judge by ourselves ? Thanks.
