Shame, shame, shame

The guy is french, he was visiting New-Orleans, and his friend Sky probably saved his life taking him to the Superdome before Katrina hit the city. He just told on french national TV that, I quote, " GIs came to the Superdome and evacuated the white people, blonde girls and so on ". He had to leave there his black friend Sky, and he has no news from him since then.

If 100% true, that's just horrible and proves what the black people are saying in New Orleans. Racism is obviously still a big factor in the US.

Maybe unrelated, but a few white English families had to be evacuated early because they were being threatened by blacks who told them they'd steal their money and rape the wives. I'm not saying that all white people were evacuated for this reason. Somebody has to be rescued last.

>>"they were being threatened by blacks who told them they'd steal their money and rape the wives"
looks like craps to me, probably a made-up story built on irrationnal fears, that's not the first time i read such silly rumors.

They were evacuating foreign nationals first - it's more than likely, that's why his friend was left behind.

This wasn't precisely what the french guy said in the interview.
In fact he depicted GIs kind of flirting with white girls, thus rather evacuating white people more easily. Which makes a big difference.

Well, let's wait a bit before jumping to conclusion (it is the first report of such behaviour I've heard off - and it comes from a French :-) - anyway there are plenty of reasons to complain about the emergency response in N-O, and some that really make me wonder why I'm paying taxes for...

There are actually many news items that have hinted at such things over the past days, both in Reuters, AP and AFP. I have trouble, though, finding them all back. However, on both the catastrophic failure of efficient rescue in this crisis, and such reprehensible behavioral patterns in rescue teams, here are a few links (Google News returned only French/translated results due to my geolocalization):

I guess we can't come to a clear picture here. Even if 10 GIs are flirting with a couple of miss wet t-shirts, we all don't know if the other 9990 are not just doing their jobs: saving lifes
Like always, it's a questions of statistics. And like always you'll find some not doing their job.
The only relevant question is, if the vast majority is doing the job...
