I think that it would be good to have the grippies appear only when you open the toolbar customization dialogs (and maybe put an option to the extension to have grippuies activated all the time).
Users (myself included) are always moving toolbars accidentally because of a click on a grippy...
Will this live only as an extension? Or could it be possibly merged into the mozilla source tree? IMHO this would be a great way to improve the interface on Windows.
