I tried to make myself an opinion about using Vista on a laptop without actually having Vista on my laptop, just reading what tech news web sites have to say about it :

  • big memory and disk footprint
  • "vista-compatible" hardware are about 20% more expensive because Vista needs more cpu, more ram, more hd, more everything
  • peripheral drivers are hard to get for Vista, some graphics card just don't work well with the SLI mode
  • very, very slow to boot
  • for the non geek end-user, minusses are not counterbalanced by the plusses and many will feel XP was enough for their needs

Hum, to say the least.
