Benjamin Smedberg has posted a long article of clarification about the future of Xulrunner. It shows that Mitchell's article introduced some confusion because her "xulrunner" often has to be understood as "GRE". I have no problem at all with the lack of GRE ; what we need at this time is a runtime, not a shared runtime. So I am glad to read prepackaged Xulrunner will still be available. BUT I am still waiting for extra stuff from the Mozilla Corporation : a real name for this runtime, a logo, images "Built with Xulrunner", more visibility on the web sites, and articles in the press. This is mandatory to show xulrunner embedders they're not betting on a technology left apart by its creators.
