Opera now uses Skyhook for geolocation... Another clue that Firefox must not include only a wrapper for geolocation services but a geolocation provider too, natively.
No! It goes against the default expectation of reasonable privacy.
Skyhook is a privately held solution for non-GPS geolocation.
Is there any open alternative?
Like what OpenStreetMap is to Google Maps.
